Waging the war against chemicals

Early last year, InformedPapa began showing some strange symptoms and wasn’t in full health. Under the care of a naturopath he had some allergy testing with some surprising results. Among them was preservatives.  This kick-started our skills in being label detectives!

The more we learned and read, the more determined we became to not only rule out preservatives from our diet, but also all nasty additives.  I printed and laminated little cards (courtesy of fedup.com.au) to carry around in our wallets as quick reference guides.

Last week I was in Sol Breads when I happened upon a brochure advertising a seminar called Living Chemical Free.  My interest was piqued and I registered and attended.  The seminar included three speakers: Dr. Sarah Lantz, author of Chemical Free Kids; Eve Hillary, author of Children of a Toxic Harvest; and Kristine Matheson, author of From Cancer to Wellness – the Forgotten Secrets.  Suffice to say I came home and resolved to step up the war against chemicals in my life and home.  While I’m a pretty good label detective, and I haven’t used shampoo containing SLS for about fifteen years, it’s not enough.  I’m on the path to greater understanding about the ingredients of every product (food, personal care, household products) I bring into my home.  I have a responsibility to myself, my children and future generations… this stuff can infiltrate DNA and be passed generationally.

Someone once did a study on cats to see how they reacted when fed food they shouldn’t eat. They became angry, hyperactive and aggressive. It then took them FIVE generations to remove the damage it had done! That scares me!

WOW – was it really that long ago!
